Throughout spring and summer, a large population of Bogong Moths frequent Mt Buller and provide a valuable food source for our precious Mountain Pygmy-possums. However, the lights in the Mt Buller Village attract these moths at night and result in the moths not reaching the boulderfield habitat where the Pygmy-possums live.
We need your help and support as part of our Mountain Pygmy-possum Recovery Plan. You can assist by turning off all lights (both internal and external) as you are closing up for the season (and also each night if you are open during summer). This will result in several benefits to you: both a reduction in your energy bill and a reduction in the mess caused by the moths inside buildings, thereby reducing cleaning costs. It will also mean that the moths are more likely to move up to the boulderfield habitat where they will provide food to fatten up the Pygmy-possums for their winter torpor.
By assisting with this community effort, you'll be helping to preserve the endangered Pygmy-possums that call Mt Buller home. We thank you in advance of your cooperation and please contact us should you have any queries.
