The Mt Buller and Mt Stirling Alpine Resort Management Board (ARMB) has developed a Draft Strategic Management Strategy for Mt Stirling, which will guide the management of the Resort for the next 10 years. This draft strategy is now available for public review, providing a valuable opportunity for the ARMB, stakeholders and government to work together to establish a shared vision for the Resort.
The 2010-2020 Strategy seeks to build on the Resort's natural and physical assets and explore future opportunities and challenges facing the Resort. It has been developed taking into consideration the construction of the proposed upgraded link road between Mt Buller and Mt Stirling, which will deliver additional tourism opportunities for the Resort. It is envisaged that this, along with the initiatives identified in the draft strategy, will affirm Mt Stirling's position as a significant Victorian tourism asset.
Enhancements to the Resort proposed in the draft strategy include: • Improvement of access and transport in both winter and summer; • Construction of supplementary public shelters, including un upgraded public shelter at the Cricket Pitch with complementary improvements to further enhance the appeal of the Cricket Pitch as a camping space; and • Upgrade of existing, and development of new recreational products and facilities.
These facilities will incorporate the use of natural energy sources (hydroelectricity at TBJ and solar power at Cricket Pitch) and will provide outstanding examples of sustainable development in the alps.
By focusing on these key deliverables, it is envisaged that Mt Stirling will be able to fulfill its vision of becoming Victoria's premier alpine destination for all season nature based tourism, education and recreation with premium public facilities showcasing cutting edge environmental technologies.
