Mt Buller will host an evening of Shakespearean comedy and fine food and wine this snow season, when the popular Shakespeare on the Mountain event returns to delight guests for another year.
A truly unique event on the Mt Buller calendar, Shakespeare on the Mountain is held at Mt Buller Chalet Hotel & Suites' famous Black Cockatoo restaurant. Diners will be treated to a performance of William Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew (suitable for all ages), while enjoying a beautiful two course dinner prepared by Executive Chef Shane Lewis and his talented team.
The Taming of the Shrew is the story of two sisters, Katarina and Bianca, and their relationship with love. Their father Baptista forbids the young Bianca from courting anyone unless Kate is married. Knowing that Kate's strong will and temper leaves her unattractive to men, Baptista feels safe that Bianca will be safe from the hands of young and eager men.
Unbeknownst to Baptista, a deal is struck by Lucentio, to have Petruccio woo and marry Kate. Undeterred by the rumours of her temper, he agrees to woo, tame and marry Kate in order to allow Lucentio to court Bianca. With the doors now open to all worthy men, Lucentio has a competition on his hands for Bianca's affection as Gremio and Hortensio also seek Bianca's affection.
Shakespeare on the Mountain is on Friday 2nd July at 6.30pm. Dinner, wine and show is $85 per person, and dinner and show is $55 for children aged 12-18 or $35 for children under 12. Bookings can be made by calling Vanessa van Clute on 03 5777 6566 or events@mtbullerchalet.com.au.
