Snow lovers are revelling in a massive 45cm fall of fresh snow at Mt Buller today and the news that the ski season has been extended to 4 October.
Buller Ski Lifts General Manager Laurie Blampied announced the extension to the season today with the news that three lifts would keep turning at Mt Buller until next Sunday to enable skiers and boarders to make the most of the extraordinary late falls.
"There will be winners and losers at the MCG this afternoon but it is all smiles up at Mt Buller and whether your team comes out on top today it will certainly be a magic Mad Monday on the slopes with half a metre of fresh snow to enjoy up here," said Laurie Blampied.
The 45cm fall in the past 24 hours is the most snow to fall in one day at Mt Buller since July 1987. "It's a record snowfall and an amazing amount of snow to see this late in the year, " said Blampied. Lift tickets at Mt Buller are down to half price for the final weeks of the season and with an incredible half metre of dry powderlike snow covering the mountain it's a spring skiers paradise.
Adult tickets are just $48 and children up to Year 12 can ski for only $26 a day. Beginners and first time skiers and snowboarders can enjoy a two hour Discover Lesson free with their day pass. Mt Buller's Ski & Snowboard School is also offering discounts on private lessons to celebrate the season extension.
Snow was reported falling right down the mountain as low as the entry gate and wheel chains are being fitted to enter the resort.
