Mt Buller receives summer snow
18 Jan 2010

Mt Buller has received some unseasonal snowfalls overnight, with approximately 4cm of snow falling at the Victorian High Country resort. These snowfalls follow months of above average rainfall, which has resulted in stunning green surrounds and fields of wildflowers whilst helping reduce the risk of bushfires in the area.

Mt Buller Alpine Resort Management Board Marketing and Communications Manager, Amber Gardner, said it was unusual to have snow at this time of year but is all part of life in the alps. "While Mt Buller tends to be at least 10⁰C cooler in summer than in Melbourne and the surrounding regions, it's rare that we get the sub-zero temperatures that enable snow to fall at this time of year.

"It's currently -1⁰C and the snow continues to falls which, combined with the high levels of rain that we have received over the last month, ensures that the resort remains lush and green for resort visitors, and also helps to minimize our fire risk throughout the summer period."

Mt Buller is in the midst of its summer operations, and has welcomed thousands of visitors to date for activities such as cross-country and downhill mountain biking, bushwalking, scenic chairlift rides and much more. Several events have already been staged, and more are still to come including Kids' Weekend, Picnic in the Park and the Bike Buller MTB Festival.

A host of events and activities are on offer at Mt Buller during summer. For further information, visit mtbuller.com.au.
