Cyclists gearing up for huge weekend of riding at Mt Buller
24 Feb 2010

Cyclists of all disciplines are preparing for a mammoth weekend of riding at Mt Buller on March 13-14, when the resort will host several popular events including the Bike Buller MTB Festival and the Scody High Country Cycle Challenge.

After debuting to spectacular reviews in 2009, the Bike Buller MTB Festival will return to the resort for two days of fast-paced competition riding, and will be the first event to compete on Mt Buller's newest cross country trail developments.

This huge weekend of mountain bike action and entertainment will return bigger and better in 2010, with events including a 25km cross-country race, a 10km kids race, 50km cross-country race to Mt Stirling and back, plus the addition of a new Brakeburner Enduro, where riders will have four hours to complete as many laps as possible of a hair-raising course that features a ride on the Horse Hill Chairlift.

On March 13, Mt Buller will also be part of the Scody High Country Cycle Challenge and Avantiplus Buller and Back in a Day, two gruelling road cycling events that take in the spectacular Mt Buller Tourist Road, a tough 16km climb from Mirimbah at the base of the mountain which rises 900 vertical metres in altitude and features gradients of up to 12%.

CEO of the Mt Buller and Mt Stirling Alpine Resort Management Board, John Huber, said these events will showcase Mt Buller and surrounds as a premier cycling destination. "The Bike Buller MTB Festival is again set to be the ultimate cross-country mountain biking race for riders of all abilities, from recreational to racers. Mt Buller's recent cross-country trail developments mean there is plenty for visitors to discover, including the brand new skills park in the Corn Hill area and a variety of new trails in and around the Village.

"Non-riders are catered for too - there are a range of activities on offer in the area, from bushwalking and sightseeing to horse riding and four-wheel drive adventures, so there is sure to be something to suit all ages and interests."
