NATIONAL ALPINE MUSEUM

Mt Buller has had a fascinating history, being transformed from a cattleman’s run into Australia’s premier alpine resort. Learn about the mountain's original characters and marvel at an eclectic collection of ski memorabilia at the National Alpine Museum.

The Museum not only details Mt Buller’s journey but the development of Australia’s entire alpine history, with hundreds of fascinating artefacts telling the story of evolution of the Victorian ski fields.

The museum showcases wooden skis & sleds, leather boots, through to snowboards from the late 80s. It also features a variety of photographs, snowmobiles, clothing, badges, publications, maps and lift equipment.

Museum displays are constantly changing with special exhibitions held during the snow season.

Location: 1st floor of Alpine Central

Opening Hours: Opening times vary - open every Saturday and every second Thursday during summer. Please call to confirm availability. Special times can be arranged for group bookings.

Cost: Entry is via gold coin donation.

Mt Buller History Hunt

Armed with your map and clues, this fascinating tour takes you on a historical hunt around the Mt Buller Village. Learn a little more about our mountain village, and the characters that made the mountain as it is today. Gain an insight into the heritage of buildings, and enjoy a scenic walk at the same time. This tour should take between 1 - 2 hours with children.

Mt Buller Book

Mt Buller - The Story of a Mountain is a beautifully presented coffee table book that relives the history of Victoria's premier mountain resort. Written by Jim Darby and with over 700 photographs edited by Mark Ashkanasy, the Mt Buller Book is a fascinating insight into the ski lift companies, ski patrol, ski schools, clubs and mountain identities that have made Mt Buller the thriving destination that it is today.
