The construction season in an alpine environment is very short due to the harsh climate. Construction is only allowed outside of the winter snow season - from the end of the snow season in early October until the start of the snow season in early June the following year.
This rule is mostly a matter of practicalities. Snow, ice, cold temperatures, and poor visibility combined with the inherently hazardous nature of building sites pose a threat to the safety of Resort guests and workers and make any outdoor work a logistically difficult proposition. In addition to the physical risks of building in winter, the visual impact of a construction site is not appropriate in a tourist environment.
