Mt Buller is just 248kms north-east of Melbourne via Mansfield. There are a few different routes you can take from Melbourne:
To get here via the most direct route using Google Maps and GPS, it is best to set your destination to Yea, then once you are in Yea set it for Mansfield, then Mt Buller from Mansfield. Click here to view the map.
Please be aware that wildlife is often seen on the Mt Buller Road, mostly around the Merrijig, Sawmill Settlement and Mirimbah areas. Kangaroos, wallabies, deer, wombats and other animals can be on and around the road. Drive with care, especially during dusk, nighttime and early morning.
Mansfield is the closest town to Mt Buller, and is ideal for a break. You can collect wheel chains and ski and snowboard equipment before you drive up the mountain. From Mansfield, you’ll reach the Mt Buller resort entry in about 20 minutes, and then it’s another 20 minutes’ drive until you reach the car parking area.
There is no fuel available at Mt Buller so it is a good idea to fill up in Mansfield before driving the last leg to the resort. If driving a diesel vehicle you should use alpine mix diesel which is available from the pump at most service stations in Mansfield.
Depending on snow and road conditions day visitors may be required to carry chains. You will need to check the daily declaration on the Mt Buller Live App or the website before you arrive. Click here to check the declaration.
Overnight / Village Access Visitors
All vehicles staying accessing the Mt Buller Village or staying overnight in the resort MUST carry wheel chains by law.
Accessing the Village and snowfields
Day VisitorsWhen you are leaving Mt Buller you need to return the Horse Hill Car Park via either the free bus, or the chairlift.
Overnight VisitorsWhen you are leaving Mt Buller after an overnight stay you need to return the Mt Buller car parks via the oversnow taxis.
Driving with snow on your vehicle is dangerous - clear it off! Make sure you clear ALL snow from your vehicle - you can be hit with a hefty fine and loss of demerit points for driving with snow on the roof of your vehicle. It is a danger and a hazard for several reasons.
If you would prefer not to drive in the snow, you can arrange to park your car and take a coach.
From either location you can then take a coach to Mt Buller. Please note, if you park at Mirimbah, the pick-up point is located at the Mirimbah Store. For prices and schedules, visit the Mansfield-Mt Buller Buslines website.
Overnight visitors must also purchase a return taxi fare which provides transport to and from your accommodation from the Mt Buller bus depot.
Motorhomes are allowed to park in the Mt Buller day and overnight carparks, however guests are not permitted to sleep in them whilst in resort. Camping is not permitted within the Mt Buller Resort.

These companies will pick up from anywhere in Melbourne and provide a chauffeur driven service to Mt Buller in the comfort of your own private vehicle.
Purchase your resort entry, parking and valet taxi tickets online before you arrive to save time and money.
Coaches are a practical transport option to the snow, and provide great value.
Guests can fly into Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine) and transfer to Mt Buller by coach, or avoid the road altogether and arrive by helicopter.
