World class cyclist Simon Gerrans has completed a timed ride up the Mt Buller Tourist Road, setting a benchmark for road cycling enthusiasts looking to push themselves to the limit and take their riding to the next level.
Gerrans, who has achieved highly in internationally renowned competitions like the Tour de France, Tour de Suisse and the Tour Down Under, finished the grueling 16km hill climb in 39 minutes and 50 seconds - a personal best time for the cyclist.
"The Mt Buller Tourist Road is a great ride that tests your strength and endurance," said Gerrans. "The climb rises 909 metres in vertical height and you can really feel the change in altitude as you get increasingly closer to the Mt Buller Village. However, the effort you have to put in to complete the ride makes it all the more rewarding when you reach the top."
"The Buller climb has a lot to offer road cyclists as it’s a good physical ride but also allows you to take in some spectacular views on the way," said Gerrans. "The higher you get, the more the landscape changes, featuring everything from roadside waterfalls and beautiful High Country vistas, to impressive views of the chair lifts and ski runs that you’re so used to seeing covered in snow. This all combines to make for a really interesting ride."
