Cross-country mountain biking
Mt Buller’s varied terrain and magnificent views combine to make it the ideal location for cross-country mountain biking. With an altitude that ranges from 400 metres to 1804 metres, and a variety of trails that stretch between Mt Buller and the neighbouring Mt Stirling, the High Country has plenty of trails to keep you entertained.

Using pedal power you can access some of the Resort’s iconic landmarks and take in some of the most stunning sights of the alpine region including fields of wildflowers, forests of Snow Gums and Mountain Ash and the impressive view from the summit. You will also be able to see the areas affected by the 2006/07 bushfires and the spectacular vegetation re-growth that now dominates the landscape.

Mt Buller and Mt Stirling’s cross-country trails are free to use and are suitable for conventional mountain bikes. They contain a variety of uphill and downhill sections, as well as a range of technical features and obstacles.

The cross-country trails around Mt Buller tend to be shorter and easier to use, located within easy access to bars, restaurants and medical assistance. The more difficult trails are those that tend to take you further away from the Buller Village and into more remote areas, where it is recommended that you carry a supply of food and water. This particularly applies to back-country adventurers, who will enjoy tackling the distant and rugged tracks available throughout the alpine region.

If you plan to access a remote track while mountain biking, it is recommended that you complete a trip intention form at either the Mt Buller Resort Management office or Buller Sports Central in the Village, or Telephone Box Junction at Mt Stirling.

While the Buller/Stirling cross-country trail network is extensive, it will be further enhanced this summer with the addition of three new trails, designed by internationally renowned sustainable trail designer Glen Jacobs. Construction of these world-class trails will begin in November 2007 and they will be launched and available to bikers in summer 2008/09.
