CROSS COUNTRY BIKING

The trails at Mt Buller have been designed and built by renowned trail designer Glen Jacobs and his team from World Trail, and aim to be low maintenance, sustainable and blend seamlessly with the alpine environment. Trails involve a range of technical feature and obstacles, vary in altitude from 600 to 1700m and guarantee incredible views, an amazing alpine environment – and best of all, they’re free to use! Trails range from beginner to advanced, however due to the naturally steep and varied terrain, most are suitable for intermediate-advanced riders.

Misty Twist

Trial Type: MTB Cross Country Difficulty: Blue Distance: 2.6 km

Appropriately named, this trail features the purest form of Jacobs-designed single track down through beautiful alpine woodland followed by an equally enjoyable and flowing ascent back to the summit of Corn Hill.

Picnic Trail

Trial Type: MTB Cross Country Difficulty: Green Distance: .450 km

A gentle climb through snowgums on singletrack with some fun flowy sections. Use Picnic Trail to access Cornhill or the entrance to the upper (steeper) stages of the Delatite River Trail.

Box Corner Link

Trial Type: MTB Cross Country Difficulty: Blue Distance: .700 km

Easy access to the lower (easier) sections of the Delatite River Trail from the Mt Buller Tourist Road, or can be used for riders wishing to exit Delatite River Trail and ride the Mt Buller Tourist Road back to the Village.

Clancy’s Run

Trial Type: MTB Cross Country Difficulty: Blue Distance: 2km

From the top of Misty Twist, continue along the fire trail. Take a breather and enjoy the unique view of Mt Buller before launching yourself down the fast and exhilarating single track back to the Picnic Table.

Copperhead

Trial Type: MTB Flow/Gravity Difficulty: Blue Distance: 2.5 km

Australia’s first flow down trail begins at the Northside Discovery Centre, snaking its way down Shaky Knees ski run. Large deep berms pump riders out and into a descent past Alpine Central through a number of switch backs before joining Home Trail, then it’s a final plunge through a number of fun and flowy corners, over a bridge and finishing at the Chalet Creek mid-station of the Northside Express Chairlift.

Cornhill Trail

Trial Type: MTB Cross Country Difficulty: Blue Distance: 1 km

Steep rocky ascent on a mix of narrow single track featuring, some tight switchbacks, flowing technical sections and wide fire trail to the intersection of Woolybutt and Medusa Trails.

Gangs Gangs

Trial Type: MTB Cross Country Difficulty: Blue Distance: 1.4 km

The trail begins with some tight technical turns and berms, flowing onto a gently traversing single track. At the junction with the Split Rock link, either drop down the slightly steeper flowy section to complete Gang Gangs and access more trails beyond Cornhill Rd, or use the link to skip

Medusa

Trial Type: MTB Cross Country Difficulty: Blue Distance: .750 km

From the intersection with Cornhill Trail and Woolybutt Trail, or from the top of Trigger Happy Trail, the Medusa winds and climbs a steep but rewarding section of single track to bring you out just before the summit of Corn Hill. Once the climb is complete there are two choices, a lap of Misty Twist or Clancy's Run (or both!) Stop and enjoy the views on the way up, or savour it for the second lap!

One Tree Hill

Trial Type: MTB Cross Country Difficulty: Green Distance: .630 km

Climb the first few switchbacks from Stirling Road, to be rewarded by a meadow of Alpine Trigger Plants amongst the snowgums. The descent can be fast and fun, so slow down and enjoy the berms to suit your skill level. The trail briefly joins with Family Trail, behind the Duck Inn, and then flows into Gang Gang's the other side of Goal Post Road.

Plough Shed Entry

Trial Type: MTB Cross Country Difficulty: Blue Distance: 2.7 km

Access the Delatite River Trail from the Plough Shed on Mt Buller Tourist Road via this descending fire trail. Be aware of fallen tree debris from the towering mountain ash above.

Snowgums

Trial Type: MTB Cross Country Difficulty: Blue Distance: 1.1 km

A link trail allowing for connectivity from mid-trail on Copperhead, up to cross over the Mt Buller Tourist Road and access to Gang Gangs. Combine this with Split Rock, Family Trail and Copperhead for a sweet loop. Can now be ridden as a downhill trail (from Gang Gangs down into Copperhead)

Soul Revival

Trial Type: MTB Cross Country Difficulty: Green Distance: 0.45 km

Enter the trail off Family Trail, below Enzian Hotel. It meanders its way up through the snowgums and pops you out at Stirling Road where you can continue across to One Tree Hill for more fun flowy trail.

Split Rock

A link trail allowing for riders to return from the further reaches of the Mt Buller trail network and Corn Hill Road back to the Mt Buller Village.

Stonefly

Trial Type: MTB Cross Country Difficulty: Black Distance: 10 km

Stonefly is the iconic alpine single track, a must-do ride when visiting Mt Buller & Mt Stirling for the avid rider. A 10km loop starting and finishing at Howqua Gap, 6km up, 4km down and 90% flowing, purpose-built, mind-blowing singletrack.

Trigger Happy

Trial Type: MTB Cross Country Difficulty: Blue Distance: 2.2 km

From Woolybutt Trail or Howqua Gap, head back across Cornhill via this single track through the alpine woodland and enjoy the gradual flowing ascent back to the Cornhill area.

Wombat

Trial Type: MTB Cross Country Difficulty: Blue Distance: 0.430 km

Return from Cornhill or the Picnic Trail loop via this pleasant ride through snowgums back to the Skills Parks on Cornhill Road. A few rocky sections will keep you on guard.

Woody’s Run

Trial Type: MTB Cross Country Difficulty: Blue Distance: 1.2 km

Woody’s Run allows riders to “short cut” the Delatite River trail, and is a very rough fire road descent. For those riding bigger gravity bikes who don’t wish to pedal around the full Delatite River Trail, take this route. For entry level and low intermediates best stick to Delatite River Trail.

Woolybutt

Trial Type: MTB Cross Country Difficulty: Blue Distance: 1.7 km

Head towards Mt Stirling on wide undulating fire trail before exiting this, and descending through superb singletrack to Howqua Gap.
