What a week it has been to welcome the hundreds of schools from across Victoria for the 61st annual Subaru Victorian Interschools Snowsports Championships at Mt Buller!
The resort turned on incredible scnow conditions - some of the best seen since 2004 - with deep cover all over the mountain and race courses in superb shape for young athletes to test their skills in a lively week of competition and great sportsmanship.
The Victorian Interschools SnowSports Championships, were first staged in 1958 at Mt Buller. The first Schools to compete were Melbourne Grammar School and Scotch College.
Since the early days of 1958 the Victorian Interschools SnowSports Championships (or Interschools) have grown to become one of the premiere School sporting competitions in Victoria. Over 180 Schools compete annually in the event held at Mt. Buller. In recent years there have been just under 6,000 entries in the event across 9 disciplines. A far cry from the first Interschools which consisted of 4 boys from Melbourne Grammar School and 4 boys from Scotch College competing in an Alpine Giant Slalom event.
Today competitors have the choice of Alpine Giant Slalom, Snowboard Giant Slalom, Snowboard Cross, Ski Cross, Moguls, Cross Country Classical, Cross Country Freestyle Relay, Slopestyle Ski and Slopestyle Snowboard.
One of the great things about the event is not just the performances and improvement in skills of all the athletes involved, it is the friendly spirit of competition and support between the racers, like Ava, Jessica and Chloe here - all from competing schools.

The Subaru Victorian Interschools Snowsports Championships would not be possible without the support of Mt Buller, XTM, Karbon, 2XU, Disabled Wintersports Australia, and Camp Quality.
Congratulations to everyone who has participated this week and especially to the parents and schools who support the athletes.

Alpine areas, which are those above the natural treelineand are covered by snow for roughly four months of the year, account for 0.15% of Australia’s total land mass. Alpine environments are therefore geographically rare and should be treated as special and unique places. Read about our environmental policies below.
