High Country Flyathlon 2026

The High Country Flyathlon brings together trail running, fly fishing and locally crafted beer at the foot of Mt Buller. Take on 14 kilometres of undulating singletrack, cast into the Delatite River and see whether your catch can move you up the results.
DATE: 5 December 2026
TIME: 8:30am - 5:00pm

Flyathletes run 14 kilometres through lush montane forest and must attempt to catch, photograph and release a fish from the Delatite River during the race. The size and species of each catch may earn a time bonus, meaning a strong result on the river could change the final standings.
There are also prizes for the biggest and smallest fish, so you do not need to be the quickest runner to take something home. Guides will be positioned along the course to offer free advice to those newer to fly fishing.
After the event, participants can swap stories over an included meal and local beer. The event is run on a not for profit basis, with money raised donated to OzFish to support river conservation projects.
