Merrijig Rodeo is a fun, family-friendly event held every year on the Saturday of the March Labour Day long weekend. They're proud to be part of the APRA circuit and the second stop in the Kyabram–Merrijig–Chiltern Tri-Series. And guess what? They're getting ready to celebrate our 50th rodeo in 2026!
For nearly five decades, they've been bringing the excitement of rodeo to the High Country — and giving back to the local community while we’re at it. Every year, profits from the event go straight to the amazing volunteer groups who help make it all happen.
Set in the stunning foothills of Mt Buller, Merrijig is about as scenic as it gets. With the mountains as your backdrop and the sun on your face, you might feel like you’ve stepped into a movie — and you wouldn’t be wrong! The iconic Man from Snowy River films were shot right here in Merrijig and the surrounding area.
There’s something for everyone at this rodeo — from kids’ sideshow fun and tasty food stalls to a licensed bar for the grown-ups. Little cowboys and cowgirls can even get involved with their own special arena time, where they can try whip cracking and roping like the pros. And for the adults, feeling brave? Hop on the mechanical bull and see how long you can hang on!
Whether you're a seasoned rodeo fan or a first-time visitor, you’ll find fun, excitement, and a warm country welcome waiting for you.
Merrijig Rodeo is a night time event, with the main section starting at 6pm. There will be a transport shuttle organised between Mt Buller and the rodeo. Stay at Mt Buller for a convenient post-Rodeo plan, and wake up to the glorious mountains Sunday morning.
