Mt Buller has been blanketed in 23cms of fresh snow since Monday and will run all 22 lifts on the mountain for skiers and boarders this weekend.
The resort will add both Federation chairlift and Boggy Creek T-bar to the mix on Saturday, opening every lift on the mountain for business. Mt Buller operates the largest lifting network in Victoria giving skiers access to 300 hectares of snowy terrain with a ‘Very Good’ resort rating.
July and August have delivered heavy snow falls with 88cm of cover now sitting in snow making areas. Current conditions are consistent with some of the resort’s best seasons on record for this time of year.
General Manager of Buller Ski Lifts, Laurie Blampied has welcomed the recent snowfall and is pleased to see Victoria’s largest lifting system fully operational.
“Mt Buller has some of the most exciting and challenging terrain in Australia when we have the whole mountain open, we’re delighted to be turning more lifts and offering more choice for our guests. This snowfall is great news for the many experienced skiers and snowboarders who are eager to get amongst our black terrain and make the most of these conditions.”
“We expect to see lots of skiers and boarders making their way up to Buller this weekend so it’s great to have so much terrain open for everyone of all levels to enjoy,” Blampied said.
Further snow fall is forecast throughout Friday, with conditions expected to clear on Saturday for weekend visitors. Another system is then expected to pass through the alpine village on Sunday, with consistent subzero temperatures and snow showers likely. The resort will continue to open additional terrain as conditions allow, which is welcome news for anyone hitting the slopes during August and into September.
Guests to the resort this Saturday will also be able to enjoy “beyondblue Day” in the Mt Buller Village Square, raising awareness of depression and anxiety. The day will include a performance from X-Factor runner-up Andrew Wishart plus the chance to win a snowboarding session with Winter Olympian and beyondblue Ambassador Belle Brockhoff. The fun will continue into the evening at the Moosehead Bar & Bistro, with live performance from Wishart and Fox FM breakfast host and comedian, Dave Thornton.
