Just 3 hours up the road from Melbourne you’ll find mountain air, stunning alpine views and when the mercury climbs it’s consistently a refreshing 10 degrees cooler here on the hill than down in the low-lands. 

FEEL GOOD

Victoria’s alpine areas copped a kicking in 2020 with bushfires, then COVID.  Your visit in 2021 will mean the world to the local café where you get a latte, the petrol station where you fill up and grab a bag of ice, the supermarket where you buy a few bits for your picnic, the takeaway shop where you get a cheeky potato cake (or three) and every small business, accommodation house and roadside fruit stand (look out for cherries which are in season now!) that you support along the way.  Thank you.  For helping our state and our region get back on our feet. WE LOVE TO…

• Stroll along the trails on Mt Buller and Mt Stirling looking out for wildflowers, native animals and taking endless photos of the views as we go.  Pick up “EXPLORE” maps from the Tourist Information desks in Mansfield or Mt Stirling or online and pick a path to walk down.
• Paddle in the Delatite River on summer days.
• Picnic at Mirimbah under the tall trees and sizzle a snag on the free BBQs.
• Take in the sunset and sleep under the stars high up on Mt Stirling with views across the high country.
• Get in the saddle with local horse riding tours and hum the Man from Snowy River while we meander through the tall alpine forest.
• Go for a roll on over 100kms of bike trails of all flavours including the legendary Australian Alpine Epic Trail (all 46kms of it), adrenaline-inducing gravity trails, undulating cross country options and mellow village loops for all the family. 
• Get your lycra on and discover why this region is legendary in road riding circles and home to a stage of the Herald-Sun Jayco tour.  Climb Mt Buller for some serious thigh burn (and reward yourself with a cold beer at the top!) before the thrill of coasting back to the valley below.
• Get creative and pull out the paints or sketchpad and capture what we see.
• Do a whole lot of not-much-at-all under a snowgum while listening to the currawongs and watching the butterflies drift past.
• Get our ‘citizen science on’ and learn about Bogong moths, the special Mountain pygmy-possum and this unique alpine environment.
• Graze on delicious local food and wine. Be sure to stop in Mansfield and look for local goodies (The Produce Store has a great collection of tasty treats and pre-made fare to make your picnic perfect!) to bring up to the mountains.  The fresh air makes for a good appetite and you’ll have earned some cheese on a cracker with a local drop after that walk!
• Sleep in and unplug.  Book a stay on the mountain for a relaxing break. We challenge you to shutdown your inbox, open a book and slow…it…all…down for a little while.
