22 July: Jeremy has a big following from his snowboarding films that he makes with his brothers showcasing incredible lines in places like Alaska, Nepal and Jackson Hole. This weekend he was just as excited to be sharing time with his family and some good friends and exploring Australian snow – plus seeing a kangaroo or two.
He thrilled locals competing in the Snowracer event at Mt Buller today ‘fore-running’ the course before the competition began. Before venturing into big mountain adventures Jeremy was focusing on racing and the Olympics so enjoyed some fun on the race course with the kids including his own two children who joined the action.
Jeremy is carving out a new direction in snow films moving away from the traditional use of helicopters to access big remote mountains and is inspired by what he tags ‘foot-powered’ snowboarding where he hikes and climbs all the ascents. It’s an environmental stance as he noticed the impact of climate change on the mountains he loves to ride and decided to change his behaviour and lead a campaign to “Protect Our Winters”. As the director and founder of POW Jeremy lobbies in Washington and seeks to inspire others to make changes to protect the environment so we can ski and enjoy the world in generations to come.
Mt Buller has a special screening of one of Jeremy’s films “Higher” on Sunday night (aptly being shown at Australia’s highest cinema) at which Jeremy will speak about the film and his commitment to environmental protection and the future of snowboarding.
