Snowflakes fell on cue for the opening of the snow season this weekend at Mt Buller with 3cms of fresh snow landing on revellers in the resort yesterday as the traditional long weekend festivities got underway.
A sharp wintery drop in temperature saw snow falling and snowmaking kick in on Saturday. Guests awoke this morning to a sparkling winter wonderland with 15cms of manmade snow dusting the runs.
“It’s a wonderful transformation to see the resort turn white and switch to snow season mode within 24 hours,” said Buller Ski Lifts General Manager Laurie Blampied.
“These cold temperatures are just what we need for a big push on snowmaking and it’s great to see the runs getting such a good cover overnight. Tonight’s cold and clear forecast is looking good for more snowmaking this evening and we’ll assess conditions tomorrow to see how soon we can get people skiing and snowboarding.”
Today at Mt Buller guests are enjoying free sightseeing chairlift rides as they soak in the sunshine and bluebird conditions.
Sightseeing rides will be available on the holiday Monday for $18 (single ride) or all day (Adult $31/Child $21). Resort entry and parking remains FREE of charge for the remainder of the opening weekend.
There is snowplay in the Village toboggan slope and plenty of activities in the resort for visitors with the road open and clear to the resort. 2WD cars are required to carry wheel chains as are all overnight vehicles visiting the resort.
