21 May 2018: The only thing Mt Buller loves as much as hitting the slopes for the first ski or snowboard of the season is celebrating with friends and revelling in the festivities and free activities over the long weekend. Mt Buller’s Village Square will come alive on Saturday June 9 for the Opening Season Celebrations from 3.30pm.
Kids will be entertained with free face painting, balloon twisting, monster bubbles, roving magician Lachlan Wilde and the always entertaining Animals of the Magical Mountains show, starring Blake the Flake and Mt Buller’s very own Barry the Mountain Pygmy Possum.

Village fire pits will warm one and all from the outside, complimentary winter warmers including roasted chestnuts, toasted marshmallows, hot chocolate and gluhwein will warm the insides. Free entertainment on the Village Stage from ‘Chunky Jam’ will keep everyone jumping before and after the traditional fireworks display as the sun goes down.
Local Winter Olympians and Paralympians Belle Brockhoff, Anton Grimus, Mitch Gourley and Jakara Anthony will help kick off the season and answer all your Olympic questions on the village stage prior to the fireworks.
The resort has been preparing for the start of the winter since mid-April when the SnowFactory began producing a huge stockpile of snow on Bourke Street. Buller Ski Lifts General Manager Laurie Blampied is looking forward to getting his skis back on, “Our snowmaking team fired up the SnowFactory a month ago and we’ve been watching the snow piles growing by the day. It boosts everyone’s confidence to know the SnowFactory ensures there will be snow to start the season in addition to what our conventional snowmaking and Mother Nature will deliver by June.”
Highlights of the season opening weekend program include special screenings of the adventure ski film ‘Finding the Line’ in the Mt Buller Cinema starring Aussie sisters Anna and Nat Segal on Saturday and Sunday nights, opening parties at The Ski Club of Victoria and Moosehead Bar.
Mansfield Shire residents will enjoy complimentary resort entry and day parking from Saturday – Monday.
Mt Buller is preparing for a jam-packed weekend with a little something for everyone as the community gather to welcome the official commencement of the snow season. To find out more check the Event Calendar, and why not book in and stay for all the festivities!
In June many accommodation houses offer Kids Stay Free packages and there are great early season passes and more on sale NOW. Get in early and buy online for the best prices all season.
