26 April 2017: Snow fell at Mt Buller from early this morning and more is expected into Thursday.
As the cold front had Victorians shivering this morning things quickly turned white at Mt Buller with around 5cms of snow dusting across the resort from 7am. Temperatures have hovered around zero degrees since early this morning with occasional heavy snow showers getting enthusiasts excited for the upcoming snow season in just 45 days.
In addition to the natural snow Mt Buller has embraced the wintry conditions to start making a stockpile of snow in readiness for the opening of the season.
A new $1.6m Snowfactory at Mt Buller enables the resort to make snow using the new refrigeration technology.
“We are excited to guarantee skiing and boarding on Bourke Street from the opening day of the season thanks to this new Snowfactory investment,” explained Buller Ski Lifts General Manager Laurie Blampied. “These cold conditions are terrific news for anyone looking forward to getting on the slopes. Work on the snow stockpile starts today for our snowmaking crew and we will continue making snow in the coming weeks to give nature a helping hand.”
Mt Buller is the only resort in Australia able to promise skiing and boarding for the start of the season on 10 June.

Pic: Locals Sam MacDougall, Katie Bowker, Morgan O’Brien and Andre Philbrick took a break this morning to warm up with a marshmallow around the fire.
