7 Peaks Domestique set to challenge cyclists with plenty of altitude

8 February 2016

Mt Buller will welcome the fourth annual 7 Peaks Domestique Ride on Saturday 5 March in a non-competitive, social group ride for like-minded cyclists to enjoy. The ride takes place from Mirimbah Park to the Mt Buller Village, where there will be a variety of activities to keep participants and their families entertained.

The 7 Peaks Domestique Series is designed to assist riders in completing the 7 Peaks Alpine Ascent Challenge, an at-your-own pace cycling challenge which see riders tackle Victoria’s alpine resorts between October to March each year for personal achievement and a swag of prizes.

Mt Buller has long been a favourite of road cyclists seeking a challenge, with a distance of 15.3km, rise of 921m, an average gradient of 6% and gradients of up to 13%. Signposts on the roadside give riders the chance to plot their progress assessing altitude and distance to the Mt Buller Village.

Over 350 riders of all abilities are expected to participate in the ride, which is supported by renowned cyclists and event promoters, Matt de Neef and Andy van Bergen. The Mt Buller road will be closed to traffic for the event, providing riders with a unique experience and safe riding environment.

“Mt Buller is set to test the strength and endurance of participants in the 7 Peaks Domestique Series, and we can’t wait to congratulate riders as they reach the finish line,” said Gillian Dobson, Group Marketing Manager for Mt Buller Mt Stirling Resort Management. “For those participants challenging themselves with the ride up Mt Buller, our alpine Village is the ideal base for the weekend, with plenty to do and see and a great range of accommodation options available to suit all budgets.”
