A huge weekend of biking ahead for Mt Buller’s summer season opening

24 November 2015

The season of summer fun and mountain biking will officially kick off at Mt Buller on Saturday 5 December, with plenty happening across the Resort for everyone to enjoy.  Visitors can head out on the mountain bike trails; catch the Radical Reels Film Festival, enjoy live entertainment, relax and share stories at the new Bike Buller Bar.

Mt Buller’s entire mountain bike trail network will be open meaning over 120km of cross-country trails will be ready to ride, as well as the resort’s five gravity trails. This is great news for gravity riders, who have traditionally only been able to ride these trail from December 26th. This summer, the gravity trails will be serviced by the Blue Dirt Mountain Biking shuttle from 5-20 December, followed by the Northside Express Chairlift from 26 December-26 January and the Blue Dirt Shuttle again from 5 February – 1 May.

Mt Buller’s summer season opening will also see a range of other events and activities take place, including the free Summit to Summit Poker Ride, free guided rides and shuttles on the Australian Alpine Epic trail, Bike Buller Pump Track Session (including kids only session), a screening of the acclaimed Radical Reels Film Festival at the Mt Buller Cinema, plus socialising at the official Bike Buller Bar and live music at The Whitt.

Mt Buller’s summer season opening weekend marks the beginning of another huge green season at Australia’s leading mountain bike park. To complement the comprehensive trail offering and associated products and services designed just for riders, this summer sees several new products and initiatives available to customers, including new transport options and a new 3D trail mapping app. Mt Buller this summer welcomes MTB Adventures to the mountain, who will operate a series of five scheduled weekend tours including transport from Melbourne (for people and bikes), optional accommodation, plus local trail knowledge and advice.

Several other improvements have been made for this summer to make the visitor experience even better, including the development of the Roam Mt Buller 3D interactive MTB trail map app. The app shows mountain bike trails on a 3D map with the rider’s exact location displayed on the map, so they can easily navigate their way through the trail network. Map data is stored offline, which enables visitors to use the map even when they’re out of range.

Immediately following the summer season opening, Mt Buller will host the second Australian Mountain Bike Summit on 7-8 December 2015. This is a critical industry event dedicated purely to the needs of those in the mountain bike space. The Summit will unite speakers and delegates from around Australia – supported by a strong international contingent – providing a platform for those active or looking to become involved in the mountain bike industry to discuss topics relevant to the local landscape. Speakers include Scot Nichol, Ibis Cycles (USA); Troy Rarick, Over the Edge Sports (USA); Dave Donaldson, Rotorua Lakes Council (NZ); Kate Leeming, Adventurer and Author;  Simon French, Dirt Art; Nicole Orriss and Phil Currie, Regional Development Victoria; and Clayton Neil, Indigo Shire Council.

Director of Marketing, Amber Gardner, is looking forward to a busy summer ahead. “The official summer season opening weekend is less than two weeks away and we can’t wait to kick start the 2015-16 mountain bike season on 5 December! It’s exciting to have so many amazing events and activities on offer, making Mt Buller the perfect spot for a summer holiday.

“Riders can get out there and enjoy our entire trail network, and we’re super excited to be able to open the gravity trails early this year. The Summit to Summit Ride is a great way for riders of all levels to get out there and enjoy our world-class mountain bike trails with the focus on fun, and the film festival is sure to be a fantastic night with a collection of great films from the ever-popular Banff Mountain Film Festival”.
