The Victorian Downhill Mountain Bike Series (VDHS) will again hit Mt Buller on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 January for two days of action-packed, adrenalin-filled downhill racing action. In 2018 over 200 riders and a similar number of spectators from around Australia will converge on Mt Buller for what is set to be the biggest gravity event of the season.
Now in its eleventh year, the Victorian Downhill Series (VDHS) is an annual four race series dedicated to showcasing Victoria’s premiere downhill mountain bike riders on some of the Australia’s toughest downhill trails. Round three, the only chairlift-assisted stage of the series, will take place at Mt Buller, on the acclaimed ‘International’ trail.
International, Mt Buller’s most challenging downhill trail and a long-time favourite of gravity riders, is over two kilometres in length, with a total descent of over 250 metres. This demanding downhill track features exacting rock gardens, steep pitching wall rides and challenging timber features and step downs. The infamous road gaps are known as the ultimate test of competitors’ ability and agility.
Held over two days, with a practice day followed a day of heart-pumping racing action, there are numerous sites along the course providing spectators an ideal vantage point to watch riders battle the challenging course. The event village expo site will feature a range of stalls, and Spurs Restaurant and Bar will be operating throughout the event to ensure spectators are well looked after.
Group Marketing Manager, Gill Dobson said the VDHS will be a thrilling event for both riders and spectators. “This year’s Vic DH Round is going to be amazing, with a huge field of riders expected to compete in one of the most challenging, technical trails in the country, here in our backyard at Mt Buller. It’s also a great opportunity for spectators to come and watch the incredible riders tackle the course, take in the beautiful surrounds of Mt Buller and perhaps even fit in a ride themselves !”
