Cross Country Mountain Biking
Climb, descend and explore your way through more than 120km of cross country trails at Mt Buller. With flowing single track, technical features and big alpine views, there is something for first time riders, experienced legs and everyone in between.
The network stretches from around 600 to 1,700 metres in elevation, winding through forests, ridgelines and the Mt Buller Village.
The Trails
Designed by renowned trail builder Glen Jacobs and the team at World Trail, Mt Buller’s cross country network has been shaped to sit naturally within the alpine environment.
Stonefly is one of the mountain’s signature rides. This 10km trail rewards the climb with flowing single track, technical sections and sweeping views across the High Country.
The Australian Alpine Epic delivers a bigger backcountry adventure, connecting Mt Buller to Mirimbah through changing terrain and remote alpine landscapes. It is a demanding ride best suited to prepared and experienced riders.
The network also includes shorter loops, shared trails and progression areas. Two skills parks, a village pump track and a beginner bike park provide plenty of room to practise before heading further afield.
The Riding Season
Cross country trails progressively open from November as conditions allow, with most of the network usually available between December and April.
Trail openings depend on weather, maintenance and ground conditions. Always check the latest report before setting out and stay off closed trails.
Maps and Navigation
With more than 120km to explore, a little planning goes a long way. Check the trail grades, distance, elevation and estimated riding time before choosing your route.
Mobile coverage can be limited on remote trails, so carry a trail map or download one before leaving the village.
The Return Shuttle
Riding the Australian Alpine Epic or Delatite River Trail to Mirimbah? A scheduled shuttle can collect you and your bike from Mirimbah Store and return you to the Mt Buller Village.
The transfer takes approximately 30 to 40 minutes and must be booked separately from gravity uplift services. Book Mirimbah Shuttle, as well as MTB Uplift Ticket if you're planning on lapping the gravity trails as well.
Stay On The Mountain
Wake up close to the trailheads and give yourself more time to explore. Mt Buller offers alpine accommodation for solo riders, families and groups, from self contained apartments to lodges and hotels.
Stay for a few nights, break the trail network into manageable rides and swap tired legs for a relaxed evening in the village.
Refuel Your Ride
Grab coffee or breakfast before heading out, stop for lunch between loops or settle in for a well earned meal after the ride. Venues operate across the mountain on selected days throughout summer.
Finishing at Mirimbah? The Mirimbah Store is the ideal spot for food, coffee or a cold drink while you wait for the return shuttle.
Plan Your Ride
Alpine conditions can change quickly. Carry water, food, tools, spare parts and clothing for changing weather, particularly when riding longer or more remote trails.
Choose a route that suits your fitness and ability, allow enough daylight and tell someone where you are heading. Follow trail signage, give way where required and stay off closed trails.
