Update 31 July 2021

Following on from the announcement today of the cancellation of the 2021 Mogul Ski World Australian Interschools, Snow Australia and Mt Buller remain committed to providing Victorian schools, participants and families with the ability to attend and participate in two aspirational snowsports event experiences in 2021.

We are conscious of the impact on Victorian schools and participants of the limited time on snow in season 2020, and again in season 2021. With a new opening in the Event calendar we have decided to implement a revised event format that will generate a maximized opportunity for Victorian schools to participate in snowsports in 2021.

The ‘Mogul Ski World Interschools Snowsports Championships’ hosted from August 23-29 will be an individual format (no teams results). This will allow for the following:

  • Dates and schedule remain as published.
  • Events will award individual results only.
  • No team results will be produced or awarded.
  • No school Champion School trophies will be awarded.
  • Schools will not have any additional pressure placed on them to select teams without the ability to conduct trials, or be forced to rely on results from 2019.
  • Names will still appear on the start lists assigned to a Team – however this is a limitation of the Interschools Entry system.
  • This event format is for one year only, due to the current COVID pandemic.

A new ‘Mogul Ski World Interschools Team Championships’ will now replace the Mogul Ski World Australian Interschools Snowsports Championships – and be held on the same event days (8th – 12th September). Entries will be accepted from individuals and teams. This format will allow for the following:

  • Event dates as per published Australian Interschool dates. Schedule to be finalised.
  • Event open to all Victorian schools.
  • An EOI Process will be investigated for interstate schools that may be able to travel to Mt. Buller pending the Victorian Government Travel Restrictions at the time.
  • It is not a requirement to compete in the Victorian Interschools event in August to be able to enter a team into the Interschools Teams Championship.
  • Schools will need to enter Teams as per usual entry system/protocol.
  • Individuals not able to form a team will be permitted to enter
  • Individual placings to be awarded per event.
  • Overall Champion School Trophies to be presented.
  • 2021 Victorian Champion Schools Trophies will be calculated and awarded after the event.

The above changes are, as always, subject to Government directives. They are made with a motivation to promote and encourage maximum participation in what has been a very difficult time for the schools. Prioritising opportunities for kids to compete in Snowsport events is the driver. The individual nature of the Mogul Ski World Victorian Interschools Snowsport Championships event recognises the challenges schools face in ranking students for the purposes of forming teams. Schools will naturally be able to use the August event as a basis to select teams for the September event should they choose.

We look forward to your support and to seeing the student athletes back racing on snow.

Mogul Ski World Victorian Interschools

Ever since their addition to the Victorian Interschools Snowsports Championships the Cross Country disciplines of Cross Country Classical and Cross Country Relay (a skate event) have been very popular. They have also served as very important means of introducing many Victorian school children to the sport of Cross Country Skiing.

Over many years Mt Buller has provided a wonderful venue for this competition, and many of the sport's elite athletes have risen through the various Interschools Age Divisions and gone on to represent Australia at World Cups, World Championships, and also the Olympics.
