Benjamin Cavet and Britt Cox take victory in ABOM Moguls Challenge

6 September 2015

Mt Buller hosted the annual ABOM Moguls Challenge on its traditional home of Chamois yesterday, with the event attracting one of the strongest fields in its 27 year history.

First held at Mt Buller in 1989, this iconic event is one of the highlights of the winter season. Past winners have included Olympic Champions Alexandre Bilodeau (CAN) and Dale Begg-Smith (AUS).

This year’s field was one of the most competitive yet, with current world number one and 2014 Olympic silver medallist Mikael Kingsbury (CAN) plus world number three Phillipe Marquis (CAN) taking to the bumps.

After an exciting men’s final, the win was eventually claimed by the 2015 Junior Dual Mogul Champion and French national, Benjamin Cavet. Kingsbury finished in 2nd place followed by local Mt Buller athlete and 2014 Olympian, Brodie Summers.

In the women’s event, two-time Winter Olympian Britt Cox claimed her 4th ABOM Mogul title challenge – a mean feat for the 20 year old Australian. Cox topped Perrine Laffont (FRA) and local Mt Buller athlete Jakara Anthony (AUS) to take the win.

General Manager of Buller Ski Lifts Laurie Blampied said today that the ABOM Moguls Challenge remains the most exciting event on the calendar, and was delighted by the success of local athletes.

“It was fantastic to see the ABOM Moguls Challenge return to its home on Chamois yesterday, offering the perfect location for the crowd of spectators to take in all the action.”

“The calibre of athletes competing in the Challenge was incredibly high, and it was great to have Australia so strongly represented on the podium. We’re thrilled to see two Mt Buller athletes, Brodie Summers and Jakara Anthony dominating in their home resort,” Blampied said.

The ABOM Mogul Challenge is sanctioned by the International Ski Federation (FIS) with results contributing to World Rankings and National team selections.
