Eagle Pack Sled Dog Quest returns to Mt Buller for the second year

26 July 2016

Mt Buller will welcome the Eagle Pack Sled Dog Quest for the second year, set to take place on August 2-3. The Mt Buller Sled Dog Quest will bring two action-packed days of friendly competition, which sees sled dog teams from across Australia and overseas participate on two challenging courses.  Entries have increased for 2016, with 15 teams are registered to compete. Competitors have the choice of two courses, a shorter course designed for two, three, four and six dog teams and a longer course for six and eight dog teams.

The first stage of the event on Tuesday 2nd August is held under lights on Bourke St, Mt Buller’s central ski run. Two, three, four and six dog teams battle out in a thrilling event that sees the start and finish in the Mt Buller Village Square.  Spectators can get close to the action with a range of vantage points to view the racing, and admire the skill of dog team and handler.

Wednesday 3rd August sees the three, four, six and eight dog teams compete on a challenging long distance course in the Corn Hill area, a stunning corner of the mountain where they will follow a trail along the picturesque trail towards Mt Stirling. Again, guests can view the spectacle from several locations.

Chief Executive Officer for Mt Buller Mt Stirling Resort Management, John Huber, is looking forward to seeing the thrilling event back in action again this winter. “We are very excited to welcome back the Eagle Pack Sled Dog Quest and all the participating teams in 2016. We saw how successful the event was in 2015 and we’re excited to be able to showcase our beautiful mountain in a fun and unique way. The race will offer a thrilling and diverse experience for competitors and spectators alike.

“Australian Sled Dogs Tours began operating at Mt Buller in 2014, and have been hugely popular since they arrived. The Eagle Pack Sled Dog Quest builds on the popularity of this activity and offers guests a new way to interact with the dogs and witness a really unique event.”

Australian Sleddog Tours offers a range of sled dog tours, which take guests on trails around the resort, enabling them to enjoy breathtaking alpine scenery and take in some unique views of the Mt Buller Village. Tours include a meet and greet with the Huskies, a photo session and sled dog tour. Each sled allows for two to five people per tour. All tours also include information sessions on the tradition of sled dog racing and its history in Australia.
