Lifts closed for season 2014

29 September 2014

After what has been an absolutely stellar season, Mt Buller has closed its network of 22 lifts for the 2014 winter season.

Please note Mt Buller is open year round with plenty to see and do. See our summer webiste here.

Despite a slow start, with warm temperatures and limited snow fall in early June, the first flakes began to fall on the 24th and from there they didn’t stop. We were treated to consistent snow falls throughout July, reaching a peak snow depth of 111cm and some of the best snow conditions in more than 30 years. If July was all about the snow fall, August delivered the sunshine and cold overnight temperatures which let our snow making team get to work. The snow guns were on for more than 430 hours throughout the season, pumping out over 427,000 cubic metres of snow. Much of this was thanks the 6 new SMI Pumas which were installed on Bourke St earlier this year.

In addition to truly amazing snow conditions, Mt Buller also hosted a series of successful events over the last 3 months. We started back in July with the 8th annual Burton Cattleman’s Rail Jam which was yet again taken out by Jye Kearney, then watched all the action on the racecourse in the Victorian University Ski & Snowboard Championships, Subaru Victorian Interschools, Australian University Games and Tom Mathias Memorial Races. Well into September we were still enjoying great spectacles, with Olympians Matt Graham and Nicole Parks taking out the ABOM Mogul Challenge before the inaugural Pond Skim National Championships presented by James Boag’s Draught took over Bourke St with a splash.

We’d like to thank everyone who joined us here on top of the world during 2014 and hope to see you out on the slopes with us next year!
