Mt Buller prepares to Light the Night for Leukaemia Foundation

5 January 2016

Mt Buller will kick off the first event for Light the Night across Australia on Saturday, 13 August 2016.  As night falls, lanterns will be carried down the popular Bourke Street ski run by skiers, snowboarders, CFA and Police Volunteers to raise funds and awareness for blood cancer.

Light the Night is the Leukaemia Foundation’s annual fundraising walk to help more Australians beat blood cancer by improving survival rates and quality of life. More than 60,000 people are living with blood cancers across the country, including leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma or related blood disorders. And every day, another 35 people are diagnosed.

Leukaemia Foundation and Mt Buller invite you to bring a little light into the lives of others by joining this uplifting and visually stunning event. Each lantern has a special meaning, gold to remember a loved one, white to represent your own blood cancer journey and blue to support others.

The nationally shared goal is to raise $2 million to enable the Leukaemia Foundation to continue providing free emotional and practical support for people living with blood cancer, as well as invest in research to improve treatments and find cures.

Light the Night is a family friendly event that unites Australians to shine a light on this important cause. ‘The Block’ contestant Steve O’Donnell will be MC for the special event.

What: Mt Buller Light the Night

Where: Bourke Street Ski Run

When: 5.00pm – 7.00pm, Saturday, 13 August 2016

Stephanie Hechenberger, General Manager of the Leukaemia Foundation in Victoria, says Light the Night has grown to become one of Australia’s most special events, with an atmosphere that inspires, encourages and empowers.

“We are thrilled Mt Buller will be the first Light the Night event for Australia this year. By joining an event you can help more people impacted by blood cancer receive the practical and emotional support they need”

“Although research is improving survival, sadly an Australian loses their life to blood cancer every two hours. The Leukaemia Foundation is the only national charity dedicated to helping more Australians beat blood cancer a live a better quality of life.
