Mt Buller ready for expanded Interschools from Sunday

14 August 2026

The countdown to the 2026 Mogul Ski World Victorian Interschools Snowsports Championships is on with more than 255 schools across Victoria on their way up to Mt Buller to participate in a bumper 8-day long event of races, community and competition starting on Sunday 16 August.

Event Manager David Speirs and his team are ready. “We can’t wait for the start of the main event week to get underway, starting with our youngest competitors this Sunday."

“The growth in primary school participation has been growing in recent years so to accommodate these junior athletes the event program has expanded from 7 to 8 days for the first time this year. Sunday is shaping up to be sunny with clear skies which we’re thrilled about for the competitors and spectators.”

The event is an important one for the resort, for Victorian snowsports and the wider community attracting hundreds of competitors, supporting family members, school organisers and friends who gather on the slopes for a lively week of race and connection.

Buller Ski Lifts General Manager Noel Landry explains, “The Mt Buller community works towards this important week in the winter calendar; it’s 8 action-packed days where the village and ski area is humming and everyone pulls out all the stops. Whether you’re a visitor or a local business operator you’ll feel the energy on the mountain this week and it’s an exciting time to be in resort.”

“This season has been a challenging one, so we are thrilled to have the Interschools family here again, supporting our village, our local businesses and the sport we are all passionate about. When you see the enthusiasm on the faces of the young people racing this week, cheering one another on and the network of family and friends sharing time on snow together it’s a powerful reminder of what makes an alpine community special,” he added.

The competition this year will see 6400 entries from over 255 schools across Victoria with events including all disciplines of skiing and snowboarding for children from as young as prep grade through to Year 12 students enjoying their final year of schools’ competition. The 2026 cross country event was held with good conditions at Tirol Flat on Sunday 2 August and results are available HERE

“The mountain operations team, snowmaking, grooming, Race & Events department and Team Buller Riders have put in a tremendous effort to prepare the best possible courses for the event and we’re grateful and excited to see it come together,” added David Speirs. On behalf of the Mt Buller community and the event stakeholders I would like to wish everyone a fun and safe Interschools event week. Looking forward to celebrating with you all at the medal presentations each evening.”

The resort will officially celebrate the opening of the event on the evening of Monday 17 August with a dazzling fireworks display and Olympic-style parade of the schools into the village square.

Improvements to the event this year include a new streamlined online entry system designed to make registration and payments simpler with lift tickets able to be linked to existing B-Tags.
