Mt Buller to open for skiing and snowboarding on Saturday!

2 June 2015

Mt Buller’s most popular ski run, Bourke St will open for skiing and boarding this Saturday, June 6 to mark the official opening of the 2015 snow season. Both Bourke St Carpet and Blue Bullet will be turning from Saturday morning.

The resort saw its first natural snowfalls in March, with more falling on Sunday and cold conditions ideal for snowmaking have now seen the resort transformed into a winter wonderland. General Manager of Buller Ski Lifts (BSL) Laurie Blampied said they are looking forward to opening more lifts soon.

“Our snowmaking team have put in an amazing effort over the last 72 hours and guests can’t wait to hit the slopes for the first time on Saturday. This is very exciting news for both our guests and mountain staff who have been looking forward to their first turns for winter 2015.”

“With more cold weather on the forecast this week, we’re looking forward to continuing our snow making efforts and getting more ski terrain and lifts open, as soon as possible” Blampied said.

Off the slopes, the resort will celebrate the official opening of the snow season on Saturday in the Village Square including free face painting, complimentary glühwein, fireworks and a live performance by acclaimed Melbourne rock band, Calling All Cars. Saturday will also mark the official opening of the only Asian influenced food court in any Australian ski resort, Popo Kitchen with a traditional Lion Dance parade for guests to enjoy.

The celebrations will continue on the Sunday, with the traditional Blessing of the Snow and more fun activities for the whole family.

Mt Buller is the ideal winter escape, and an easy three-hour drive from Melbourne. A range of accommodation deals and packages are available for Opening Weekend and the entire season - visit mtbuller.com.au for further details or call 1800 BULLER.
