Mt Buller wins a prestigious award at the APCO Australasia Awards Night 05 May 2015

5 May 2015

Mt Buller Mt Stirling Resort Management, in partnership with the Emergency Services Telecommunications Authority (ESTA), recently won the Emergency Management Resilience Award at the Association of Public Safety Communication Officials (APCO) Australasia Awards night in Melbourne on 29 April 2015. The award was presented to the ESTA - Mt Buller Addressing and Emergency Markers Project Team, who in conjunction with Resort Management has been developing emergency markers across the vast trail networks at the Mt Buller and Mt Stirling alpine resorts. The award also recognised the Mt Buller village addressing system that the CFA has facilitated.

ESTA plays a vital role in Victoria, by providing the 24-emergency call-taking and dispatch services for police, fire and ambulance. The government organisation also manages the provision of advanced, operational communications for Victoria's emergency services. The Mt Buller Mt Stirling Resort Management Environmental Services Team has worked closely with ESTA for the past 18 months to provide extensive data and on-ground support, which is a fundamental element to the project development.

Louise Perrin, Environmental Services Manager said of the roll-out of emergency markers within the resorts "Visitor safety and a positive visitor experience is vitally important to Resort Management. We are proud that this project can assist ESTA, and benefit all emergency services agencies greatly in delivering the best response to an emergency situation."

"One of the many challenges 000 call-takers face is locating callers who are in ‘open spaces' with no set addresses such as beaches, parks and trails. Emergency Markers are designed to pinpoint a caller's exact location during an emergency in public open spaces, or in hard to define places, and ESTA has helped establish close to 2,500 markers across Victoria."
