Mt Buller’s cross-country trail came alive on Sunday 3rd August as more than 630 race entries from 49 schools competed in the 2025 Mogul Ski World Victorian Interschool Cross Country Championships. Tirol Flat was a flurry of colour and competition, with classic races in the morning followed by a buzzing afternoon of team relays.

With sunny skies overhead and perfectly groomed tracks, conditions were ideal for racing. Melbourne Grammar School -Grimwade House dominated the primary co-ed, while Geelong Grammar edged out Ivanhoe by just 6 points in the secondary co-ed category. MLC Kew swept the female relay divisions, Melbourne Grammar led the male teams, and standout individuals wins included Matthew Wilby, Thea Harvey and Liam Croke-Cullen with commanding leads to win their races. Check out the rest of the results.
Behind the scenes, Mt Buller was in full swing with early lift operations, and all hands-on deck to support the smooth delivery of the event. From 4am starts to late evening wrap-ups, the mountain’s operations, events, grooming and guest services teams pulled together to create an exceptional race day experience for students, schools and families.
The XC Championships are a key step towards National Interschools, returning to Mt Buller this September. Beyond the medals and podiums, the event celebrates participation, school spirit, and a shared love of snowsports. This was on full display in every cheer, ski stride and sprint to the finish at Tirol Flat. The countdown is ON to the Mogul Ski World Victorian Interschools Snowsports Championships 18-24 August including Multisport event 18-20 August, followed by Nationals in early September. It’s race season!
