Bikes are back baby!

3 November 2023

Local riders (of bikes, not horses) look forward to Melbourne Cup weekend each year for the steady re-opening of the bike trails on Mt Buller and Mt Stirling.

Mt Buller Mt Stirling resort will drop the rope welcoming bikes onto most of the network of trails on Saturday 11 November and the great news is that almost everything is ready to ride, and in great condition.  In fact most are ready to ride now (just don’t tell everyone... yet!).

The rare exceptions are the Australian Alpine Epic and ABOM gravity trail which are still getting some attention before they are called open.

The resort team has made the most of the early start on summer preparations, busy on the tools tackling the routine clearing of trees after the snow season as well as smoothing, digging and raking the kilometres of trail to deliver the best possible ride for guests.  They’ve achieved this against the challenging weather backdrop of several snow days and some torrential rain and wind events.

The resort crew have the additional expertise of trail specialists Contour Works alongside them on the hill, a collaboration that is elevating the quality of the trails for riders and ensuring the trail design is resilient and handles the challenges of an Australian summer.

If jumps and deep berms get your heart racing you'll love the upgrade and complete overhaul on lower sections of Copperhead.

From early December the shuttle services and bike shops will be open in the village as the full summer ride experience kicks into gear.  The village pump track is already in place and getting regular use and the road riders are already out in force making the most of the gruelling climb to the village with views and a good coffee at the Kooroora waiting at the top.
