HELLO PROSPECTIVE POND SKIMMER

Please Enter by 10am on Sat 23 Sept 2017 at the salesyards Ticketing office

Thanks for your interest in competing in the elite third-and-a-half annual Pond Skim National Championships at Mt Buller.

Despite being recognised as the National Championships, you don't actually need to follow an athlete pathway from your local pond skimming club, through the state league, to reach national glory. Just register online and give it a crack (talent scouts are proposed for 2018+).

NEW FOR 2016 2017

This year we’ve upped the points weighting on the costumes to recognize all the effort that goes in ahead of time, not just the final seconds of regret. New scoring for 2017 sees costume points doubled (to 50% of total score).

Plus we're giving prizes to 5th posi!

Also something about a hanging target...

don't drink and skim

Following historical tradition since time immemorial in 2015, all competitors (18+) receive 2x drink cards for the Official Pond Skim National Championships Après Après Party. Notice the "après" which means after you compete.

IMPORTANT BITS

  • All competitors MUST sign a waiver and get a wristband at the Saleyards Ticket Office between 9.00 to 11.00 on the morning of the event.
  • For safety reasons (and something to do with a maelstrom back in 2014) NO SHARP THINGS are allowed, including ski poles. All costumes and contraptions will be inspected at the top of the course and their allowance is up to the discretion of the Linermeister.
  • If the weather gods get cranky, the event may be delayed to Sunday 24 September, following the same schedule. In this case Saturday night will host the Official Pond Skim National Championships Avant Après Après Party.
  • This year we have a Snow Factory so we're mostly confident it will all be fine.* Mostly.

ENTRIES

  • Each competitor gets one skim per entry.
  • If a competitor purchases more than one entry they will be allowed to compete the corresponding number of times (e.g. they may wish to compete as an individual then again as part of a team).
  • If two or more competitors compete/start at the same time, they are counted as a team. They will be given a combined score and placed in the teams category.
  • Teams can have up to four competitors.

WHY ARE TEAMS PRIZES NOT AS MUCH CASH MONEY?

Because we can't afford it. Also, far fewer teams compete, so your chance of winning is like a hundred times better. And if you hit the bullseye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate.

*Fine Print

In the super unlikely event that we can't even run a puddle skim due to weather or otherwise, a full refund will be offered, the avant après après party will go on and competitors can still enjoy their two free drinks. In this situation prizes (but not prize money or vouchers) will still be awarded for individuals and teams judged solely on costume (e.g. this may take the form of a fashion parade in the Village Square).

JUNIOR POND SKIM

A Junior (Under 18) competition will be held from 12.00 to 13.00.

Entry for the junior event is $25 and all competitors must have their parent or guardian co-sign the waiver. Waiver signing is at the Saleyards Ticket Office 9.00-11.00 on competition day.

Registration closes 10am at Saleyards.

Prize pool details for the Junior Event will probably be made up on the spot after we check the marketing prize cupboard.
