Buller X 2017

UPDATE -- Mon 18 September, 2017:

THE LIGHT IS GREEN and the stoke levels just went up a notch.  The Ski Patrol and the event team have been checking the zone daily and it looks like the weather will play ball THIS Thursday 21 September!

The athletes are on their way!

Up to 10 hand picked elite snowboarders will join 10 skiers in Australia’s raddest terrain off the Summit of Mt Buller and down into its fabled chutes in this unique big mountain event.

As incomparable as it is challenging, Buller X only goes ahead if and when the conditions line up to enable the athletes to ski and ride the steep, technical course in ideal conditions.    We need deep stable snow cover, clear skies, no wind and perfect viewing conditions - and it looks like we finally have it!

The event is the brainchild of Tony "Harro" Harrington (remember the World Heli Challenge?) who has been cooking up amazing film and snow projects for decades.  He was blown away by the challenging terrain in the Mt Buller chutes and that something so 'rowdy' could be right on the side of the ski area in a resort - just minutes walk from a chairlift. "I've shared photos of the zone with big mountain skiers from all around the world they don't believe this is in Australia.  I can't wait to show the international freeride community that we not only do we have this incredible terrain but the skiers and boarders to ride it here at Mt Buller."

Launched back in 2016, the calling of the event came close in the first year with the course needing just one more decent snowfall to produce the conditions to stage the event. Unfortunately that final storm never rolled through, however the passion for the concept was ignited.

The chosen field of athletes for 2017 are ready and making their way to Mt Buller.  You can watch all the action LIVE in the resort and there is a perfect viewing zone on Family Run with a good view into the chutes area.
