This weekend marked the official close of the summer season at Mt Buller Mt Stirling with a classic mix of sunshine, and a dusting of snow!
It’s been a busy ‘green season’ up at Mt Buller and Mt Stirling with the resort welcoming many visitors seeking an escape from the summer heat and enjoying time on the trails in the cool alpine forest to ride mountain bikes, run on the trails, go 4WD adventuring, camp, enjoy walks, photograph nature, ride horses, practice yoga, enjoy films, paint scenery and spot native wildlife.
A highlight this summer was the bumper attendance at the Shimano Bike Buller Festival which saw record visitors as did the Victorian Downhill Series. Another high point was the Mountain High Fun Run held over the bustling Easter long weekend which raised over $2000 for the Mansfield District Hospital.
New at Mt Buller this summer was the first Slopestyle competition which saw thrilling stunts as riders flew and flipped over a massive jump on the Village toboggan slope to the delight of a cheering crowd. The season wrapped up last weekend with a well-attended “Joyride” program across both days. Riders snapped selfies with Mt Buller gnomes along the trail network, jumped bikes on the giant airbag in the village square and partied into the night at the ABOM to mark the end of a fun summer.
“The 2018/2019 mountain biking season was another massive one for Mt Buller and Mt Stirling’s trails. The 120+ day green season is growing, drawing visitors as soon as the warmer days arrive each December. We saw record numbers for both the Victorian Downhill Series and the Shimano Bike Buller Festival that are each seeing a loyal and growing following,” said Mt Buller Mt Stirling CEO Mark Bennetts. “Thank you to all the riders that came from near and far to ride our trails, we hope to see you next summer or in a month or so for a ski on the runs at Mt Buller or on the trails at Mt Stirling.”
The 4WD tracks accessing the top of Mt Stirling are now closed until 29 November 2019 to protect the summit area as the Mt Stirling team prepare for the coming snows. The Circuit Road and Corn Hill Road remain open and will close on the Queen’s Birthday Weekend to coincide with the official opening of the snow season. Mt Stirling Road to Telephone Box Junction (TBJ) remains open year round.
